Disney have finally aired their first same-sex kiss on one of their main channels. Despite Disney’s constant nods of support toward the LGBTQ community in several of their other media products. they have never openly shown a same -sex kiss. Disney have always shown their support of the LGBTQ community, in movies such as Finding dory and Good luck Charlie, where there are lesbian couples.
Despite Disney’s subtle support of the LGBTQ community they had never shown a same-sex kiss in any of their media products. Their first same-sex kiss was shown on the show ‘Star vs. the Forces of Evil’. The showing of this kiss on such a public channel means that the younger generation get to see the different types of people in society. As well as gain the confidence they need to be themselves from a young age. It is easier for Disney’s young audience to accept who they are if they are comfortable with same-sex relationships. My Section B is focused on music, mainly the Pop/Rock genre. I chose 3 Bands to compare and contrast; These bands being Babymetal, BTS and One Direction, as they all have a fair amount of credibility in the world of music.
Babymetal are a Japanese Kawaii-Rock (A genre of their own creation) band, that have gained a worldwide cult following since their formation in 2010. Their debut single with a major record label, Ijime , Dame, Zettai (Bullying, No good, Absolutely. Occasionally known as no more bullying), was also their first standalone single after splitting from Idol band Sakura Gakuin. In British media, Babymetal are (really) only portrayed online, with major news networks and print media (Apart from genre specific (Rock) magazines (Kerrang) and TV channels (Kerrang again) shining some light on them) barely showing any news or info on them. As the creators of the Kawaii-Rock genre, I have to say that they follow all codes and conventions, as they are the ones who set them. New White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, just went on a 5-minute rant about how the media coverage of Donald Trump’s inauguration was inaccurate (See the video in the tweet below).
One of the things he discussed (at high speed – try and keep up), was that “This was the largest audience to attend an inauguration, PERIOD.” But looking at the image below from: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38682574, it’s hard to agree.
Now, one could argue that perhaps the images were taken at different times (for instance), and that Mr. Spicer is right. But there is something about a man, racing through a speech in an ill-fitting suit that is hard to trust.
The above URL ‘Trump claims media ‘dishonest’ over crowd photos‘, breaks this down in more detail. Here is an exerpt:
What are US media saying?
The new president repeated his low opinion of the media dubbing reporters “among the most dishonest human beings on earth”. Mr Spicer vowed “to hold the press accountable”.
In their reaction, major US media outlets flatly denied the claims made by the US president and his spokesman.
The New York Times, singled out by Mr Spicer, denounced “false claims“.
CNN said it did not even broadcast the spokesman’s statement live. It said the press secretary had attacked the media “for accurately reporting” and went on to debunk the claims.
ABC News also goes into detail to refute the claims.
Pro-Trump Fox News reported the claims unchallenged.
BuzzFeed News accuses Mr Spicer of lying and goes on to provide Twitter memes generated from his remarks.
For the sake of balance, here’s the Daily Mail’s take on the whole event. (If that’s your thing).
It is not news to us that ‘The Daily Mail’ is a very opinion based media text, they enforce their personal ideologies and make it seem like a ‘fact’ or a true representation of what happened. Like most of the world I was very much addicted to reading ‘The Daily Mail’, they offered several different topics on one page and it was easy for me to read because of the language they use, but I soon started to realise just how corrupt they actually are.
Whilst looking through todays news on ‘The Daily Mail’ I came across this article about Ariel Winter’s bold fashion choice and it immediately reminded me of something Kendall Jenner had worn back in September:
